Sawyer Oars, Artists & Save Our Wild Salmon Join to Produce Oars with a Cause

Save Our Wild Salmon and Sawyer announced a partnership today that will benefit fisheries through a series of limited edition “Artisan Series Oars” with a percentage of sales supporting Save Our Wild Salmon conservation efforts to protect and restore wild salmon, steelhead and the healthy river systems they depend on.

The “Sawyer Artisan Series” feature prints of fish species from artists around the country passionate about fisheries and fishing art. The first two are ”The Steelhead” by Link Jackson and ”The Brown Trout” by Ty Hallock. These oars showcase Sawyer’s and each artist’s ability to create rugged yet highly functional art.

The timing is perfect for this alliances as part of Sawyers 50^th anniversary. At our 45^th, we realized that we don’t just make paddles and oars, we make memories. Whitewater Halloween

Halloween 3.0 River Warrior Family "Style." You cannot make this stuff up but have to go out and GET IT! The weather in Roseburg, Oregon was cloudy, wet and chilly. My iPhone app told me that Gold Hill was 72 degrees and sunny. Gold Valley Fellowship had a Trunk or Treat Harvest Party from 5pm-7ish pm. We went to the 0930 Redeemer's Fellowship Service and I asked one of the elders for prayer for our whitewater run on the Rogue later this day. Little did I know what was in store or our family.

The weather was absolutely perfect and autumn in full effect. Ashten (Battle Gorilla) at the stout age of 8 paddled through both Nugget and Powerhouse Rapids like a champ...being the youngest I know of to R4 this section of world-class river. We styled Powerhouse and drove around with the raft inflated on the truck, as we left for the Harvest Party.

I really wanted to Halloween Photo BOMB Sawyer Paddles and Oars. As we were deflating our raft at the Sawyer Station, Pete Newport walks up to us in the dark of night and asks me what length paddle am I using.

This leads to a walk to Sawyer's Corporate HQ and the River Warrior Family being gifted two (2) River Serpent Raft Race Paddles that were used in the World Championships in Japan earlier this month (3-9 OCT 2017). We are still on the high that Rogue River provides and the incredible gift to our River Warrior Family.

Sawyer Hosts 2016 USRA R4 National Championships!

Sawyer Hosts 2016 USRA R4 National Championships!   Spring boating season has arrived! Rivers levels are up, the sun is shining and we are excited to be kicking off the season by hosting the US National Rafting Championships March 30th - April 3rd.   Events   April 2nd Slalom & Sprint - R4 (four member) teams will compete in Slalom & Sprint events on the exhilarating & spectator friendly Class IV section of the Rogue River at Powerhouse/Ti’lomkh Falls in Gold Hill, Oregon.   April 3rd Down River Race - A Class IV Down River Race will be held on the Upper Klamath River Sunday.   Registration Registration is still open to all interested teams, but all competitors must have run the Upper Klamath stretch at least once prior to race day. WASHINGTON, D.C.—Trout Unlimited and Sawyer Oars and Paddles announced a partnership today that will benefit TU members across the country by providing quality boating products at a discount, and by donating 15 percent of the company’s sales of TU-branded paddles and oars to TU’s conservation work all across America.

“This is a great partnership for us,” said Zac Kauffman, sales manager for Sawyer. “It allows us to interact with the vibrant Trout Unlimited community and provide members a 20-percent discount on TU-branded products, and it helps us give back to the resources we all cherish—America’s rivers and streams.”

Paddle Moments for the Soul

There comes a time in life when things just get super busy. Day-to-day routines get marred by unexpected events. Work gets ramped up with deadlines, new initiatives, and the incessant pressure of succeeding. And it's usually during these stressful times when the demands of work, family, and life coincide with a fresh swell and offshore winds. Paddle time gets forfeited, chips and beer become the release, and as the belly gets a little bigger, a few new gray hairs pop up top. It’s called getting old, right? But taken in stride, it’s just a temporary sidetrack; a hurdle that will be overcome. The best cure, at least for those who seek peace and happiness in the water, is of course, getting wet.

And so it was the other evening, when I finally got back to the Source. After missing early morning dawn patrol (sleep is sometimes more important) and then missing a late afternoon sesh (parent conference and dinner), I was able to get down to the beach for an evening sunset session.

Having lived away from the beach for the last few years, I almost forgot the simple beauty of the beach during that golden hour (or 2) before the sun goes down. The strong sea breeze of the day relented to glass. Beach roses in full bloom smelled of tropical glory. And the gentle crash of the small swell drowned all thoughts in my head of the month’s stresses.

After a brutal winter of ice, snow, wind and cold, it felt liberating to shed the wetsuit for board shorts. Putting in and diving under the first line of whitewater stopped all train of thought dead in its tracks. From that moment on, and for the next hour, all I cared about, thought about and acted on was how I responded with each new wave, each new set. I temporarily transcended my reality of being, and simply flowed with the ocean. This meditative state instantly put me at ease with my life- the stresses at work, the responsibilities to my family, and that voice inside my head.

As the sun set, the ocean grew calmer. Beachgoers, surfers, and paddlers alike were soaking in the moment. The sky went pink, then purple, and as I rode my last wave in, I gave thanks to the greater presence that provided a much needed recharge to my soul.

Congratulation to MO Freitas!!

Mo Freitas has just won the 2015 Payette River Games following a hugely entertaining three days of racing here in Idaho.

In one of the best all round performances we’ve ever seen, Mo made it a clean sweep by claiming both the super technical “SUPer G” time trial and the mildly chaotic SUP Cross event. It has been quite impressive to watch Mo define being a true waterman with the triple threat of distance, surf and now a river SUP champion.
